Comcast subs get 'Smash' sneak look

"Smash" NBC is giving clients of the parent company's cable service, Comcast, a headstart round the midseason series "Smash." Even though hybrid tuner drama doesn't begin until Feb. 6, Comcast subs will get a 3-week visit "Smash" via Comcast's digital platform, XfinityTV.com and Xfinity if needed. The pilot will probably be available there by Jan. 16 and also on the Xfinity TV iPad application beginning Jan. 23. You will notice supplemental material for an additional midseason launch, "The Voice," Jan. 19. Peacock's move with "Smash" continues the recognition of nets implementing online platforms to drum up promotion for skeins. NBC offered early online peeks of the fall comedies "Whitney" and "Up With The Evening" in September in the pact with Yahoo. Fox built strong word-of-mouth due to its "New Girl" by considering making the pilot on iTunes. Contact Andrew Wallenstein at andrew.wallenstein@variety.com
