The prize item is a pair of ruby slippers used in the movie. These are probably the best preserved of the four remaining pairs and were used for close-up shots of Dorothy's feet. The auction also features a trove of rare Marilyn Monroe merchandise, including her invitation to the 1962 birthday party at Madison Square Garden for President John F. Kennedy where she serenaded him with "Happy Birthday' ($40,000-$60,000) and a nude painting of the star by Earl Moran ($70,000-$90,000). The highlight of the Monroe memorabilia is probably the 3.5 carat platinum and diamond wedding band baseball great Joe DiMaggio gave her at their wedding on January 14, 1954. The ring has an estimated sale price of $500,000-$700,000.
